Brake Linkages
The brake linkages in this section include all the parts usually found from the rear of the brake backplate to the centre of the trailer or caravan and then to the rear of the coupling.
The principle for nearly all autoreverse brakes in the UK & Europe which are fitted on caravan and trailers is the use of bowden cables. These connect the brake shoes to the centre of the trailer where there is an anchor plate, usually fixed to the chassis or axle, and to a compensator. The compensator ensures that the brakes are applied with the same force and therefore achieve even braking.
A single brake rod is then connected between the compensator and the rear of the coupling. On boat trailers, because of the very long drawbar, galvanised cable may be used.
